They are blending

 

Hello everyone and welcome back to my blog. Today I want to talk about something that I have seen a lot of lately. I wanted to talk about blended families. I know a lot of people who parents have had a divorce and remarried someone with children. I think sometimes these situations can work out great and sometimes things end up like Cinderella. I first want to talk about divorce. I think in some situations divorce is the best choice. I think sometimes divorce is what is best for the parents and the children. I want to talk about two cousins I have, who have both had a divorce and blended families. I am going to change their names for the sake of privacy. One of the cousins is Kennadee and her ex-husband Brad. Together they have four children. They had a pretty bad divorce and shortly after Brad remarried to a woman who had three children of her own. Kennadee started dating a man name Jared. Kennadee and Brad had a terrible relationship, and the children would often come in between the both of them. It got to the point where everyone could see how miserable the children were and eventually the children were forced to pick sides. Both of the parents are unhappy and so are the children. The other cousin I have is Haley and her ex-husband Jeremy. Together Haley and Jeremy had three children. Jeremy remarried and had another baby with his new wife and Haley remarried and had another children and her husband had a daughter from a previous marriage. Haley and Jeremy remained friends even after they got a divorce. They decided that them being on good terms would make it easier for the children. What I love about Jeremy and Haley is that their new families are close. This past fall Jeremy, his new wife, their baby, Haley, her new husband, their children and the three children from Jeremy and Haley all went to a pumpkin patch together and took really cute pictures together. When I was talking to Haley about this, she said that they all try to get together a couple times a year and spend time together. Haley and Jeremy’s children are thriving. They seem to be happy and comfortable. I am not saying that Haley and Jeremy never disagree, but they try to keep it away from the children so that they don’t feel like they have to choose side. I am also not saying that their children are always happy either but compared to the first family I was talking about their children are a lot better off. One of my best friends comes from a blended family. She unfortunately doesn’t have a good relationship with her real mother and never really bonded with her stepmom. She does have a really good relationship with her step siblings. She said she considers them to be just as close to her as her real siblings. When their families became one, her siblings and her step siblings were close in age and because of this they were able to experience the same things. I think this is why they were able to get along with each other so well. I think it is important to keep a blended family healthy. You have to think of the situation from the child’s perspective as well as the children from the other spouse’s side. I think it is also important that the parents talk about how the house will run and make sure they are on the same page when it comes to discipline. I think blended families can work but it takes patience, cooperation from both parties, and deep thought about how the children will react.
